17021 A Rare and Magical Beast

Bev wonders why common sense is so uncommon.

Common Sense is a rare and magical beast. On the scant occasions I do see it, it's like witnessing a happy leprechaun riding a unicorn in a blaze of rainbow brilliance across a shimmering sky while whales breach on the distant horizon.

When I type "common sense" into my online thesaurus, these synonyms pop up:

Intelligence

Wisdom

Logic

Rationality

and my favorite...

Gumption

How many times have I watched on as boarding began and stood, paralyzed with fear, seeing car seats being rammed into the overhead, luggage left in the middle of aisle blocking traffic or any number of countless acts of irrational behavior? How many times have I cried inside when I have to repeat "would you like something to drink" to Mr.X in headphones before he takes them off and I'm delighted with a hospitable "What?" How many times have I tried to enjoy a quick 5 minute lunch on the jumpseat only to halt mid-bite because of the enormous rumpus that suddenly entered into my peripheral?

People have lost their gumption.

Who's with me to changed "common sense" to "uncommon sense" in Webster's Dictionary? Write to your Congressman/woman!
