17026 You Fly Too Much

Poor Wanda is losing her mind again.
Wanda is that part of my brain that can't keep things organized.
Why, just the other day I had massive Flight Attendant Brain. I had been anticipating my brother's birthday, ready to call and stop over with a little surprise my mom and I had put together the day prior. I fixated on Sunday Sunday Sunday, even though that was a day after his actual birthday. So when Saturday morning rolled around, and I was already on the plane (for the umpteenth time that week), I got a text from my mom.
"Did you drop off the surprise?" she texted.
"I am planning to go over after work," I replied.
Just then, my clever little smart phone's screen pops up with an alert from my calendar. "Scott's birthday is today!"
Crap!
I texted my mom I was late. She seemed sad. So for the whole day I beat myself up for not being more on top of it! But then I thought how easy it is to lose track of the days when you're flight crew. I had been flying the same route 4 days in a row. How can it not feel like Groundhog's Day?
In the end, I was still able to surprise my brother on his birthday.
Luckily, I'm not flying so much that I don't recognize my own family...yet.
